"If it's too perfect, it ain't Jazz."

Calvin Howell
October 11, 1959 - August 30, 2009

Calvin Howell was an energetic man who believed that if he didn't have more plates spinning and balls in the air than he had sticks, he wasn't doing enough. A warm, supportive father to his son, Askia, and his daughter, Seslee, and husband of many years to his beautiful wife, Diana, he made a difference in the lives of everyone he met and knew.

Calvin introduced me to Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism in 2001 and for this gift, I will honor and remember him forever. He was my District Leader in Reno, NV and became a Chapter Leader when he returned to Florida. Early this year, Calvin accepted the responsibility of Area Men's Division Leader, and continued to inspire every person he ever met. At the time he passed he was doing what he probably loved most -- supporting the Youth Division in his area with the dream of World Peace.

A wonderful bass player, Calvin could not stay away from music. This website is the third rendition of his band, CHKyo. The meaning of the name is CH = Calvin Howell and Kyo = spreading inspiration through sound. And his music was sweet to listen to any time.

I have missed him since he left Reno and I will miss not seeing him on earth again this time around. But forever in my heart, I hold a deep, abiding love for the man who showed me how to chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
